Trichloroethylene

Answer at http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/tfacts19.htm

Trichloroethylene is a colourless liquid which is used as a solvent for cleaning metal parts. Drinking or breathing high levels of trichloroethylene may cause nervous system effects, liver and lung damage, abnormal heartbeat, coma, and possibly death. Trichloroethylene has been found in at least 852 of the 1,430 National Priorities List sites identified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

Trichloroethylene (TCE) is a non-flammable, colourless liquid with a somewhat sweet odour and a sweet, burning taste. It is used mainly as a solvent to remove grease from metal parts, but it is also an ingredient in adhesives, paint removers, typewriter correction fluids, and spot removers.

Trichloroethylene is not thought to occur naturally in the environment. However, it has been found in underground water sources and many surface waters as a result of the manufacture, use, and disposal of the chemical.

Topic: Water a Pawn

Here I am posting from the stars, still I can keep light on the subject that our polititians are promising us, less service and more money for them!

I am too weary to fight, my eyes can barely read, but I do want to leave a web connection with you before I go, so if you wish, check with them yourself & see what is happening with the 5 dam proposal of the Coalition combine party of National & Liberal, or the Seven Dam Plan from the present Labour Government.

Or, do I have that back to front. Beats me!

Why not before this doing some recycling of water, on this dry continent, Australia?  I am off before I fall asleep in my seat.

All the arguments to & fro regarding water, water usage, dam capacity, and future use in City affects those farmers close to cities here in  Australia, at least.  The squeeze has been put on in high production costs, interest rates & the actual need to make a living off the land after all these production cost are paid. Result has been, thousands move out, and land goes to urban use, farmer still not reimbursed for his/her labour & loss of livelihood.
So what, you say, Progress, that is all in the name of progress. What has this got to do with water. Well, if it don't rain, dam or crop does not get watered, plant or animal is not marketed, and farmer gets no production, sold up anyway.

City fella feel pretty hot this last summer, so He/She puts in one of those new fangled things called split system air conditioners. In every room, mind you.. Not just the bedroom or lounge, the kitchen [stove is emitting too much heat] dining room, got to be comfortable, lounge, kids bedroom, main bedroom etc. times how many people have the resources, or credit more likely, resulting in a great whooping need for more power!

That is exactly what happened in Brisbane, the great power, water,  & fuel guzzling city I have known, for its climate & closeness to business. Except, tens of  thousands travel from Ipswich, Sunshine Coast & the southern beaches, The Gold Coast, and from what I saw, each vehicle held one, the driver, heading to the metropolis for work, in the morning, and trekked back of an evening.

I read the online version of the Courier Mail, a Brisbane Paper that has a daily topic or three, for their blog they run. http://www.news.com.au/couriermail  if you are interested in perusing the latest issues.

Stone the Crows, I could have predicted what they would come up with next, “Taronga, & West bank, no it is called something else,Swanbank, near Ipswich, takes its water from the Bremer.
My brother has not been able to irrigate from a tributary of this river because the Moogara dam, which fed it for many years, as about 2% capacity, no chance of a run off.

Well, what was their prediction, these whopping big businesses will use so much of our precious water from Wivenhoe Dam, built just for us precious City Dwellers who have to be looked after, have their airconditoners, swimming pools, hook or by crook..

I rest my case…

Wink All is new at lycos tripod & I am still getting used to the format & what one can do here. No doubt I should do my print work before posting a picture, thus the reason for the new entry. The flower garden & previous to the the large vegetable garden belongs to folk at the Jellinbah Station I visited last week, and the gardner does not know what pictures I took, & won't he be surprised if he should stumble across it all here.

My daily consumption of Water
Mood:  lucky
Topic: change of view

I have done a quick calcuation of my latest 6 month water consumption.

At $340.00au. for the 6 months ending 30th June 2006, my cost of water

was much higher that my friend who has a block of land same size as mine,

one half acre in whole area.  For 26 weeks for half a year, weekly usage

costs $13.20cents. Leaving the daily water usage at less than $2.00 per day.

How many of us would buy a drink, either fruit juice, soft drink, water or

beer,  and not quibble at the cost of that one drink. Now at $2.00 per day,

I get my toilet flushed at least 4 flushes, hands washed, more than 4 as

I am digging in the soil, or cleaning house, soiling my hands in one way or

other.  Shower, or bath, at least once a day.  Washing clothes, three times

a week, or three loads in automatic washer, even on low water level load,

quiet a few litres of water.

Water & All That
Mood:  hug me

15th July AFTERNOON…HERE

AGAIN THE WATER PROBLEM OF SOUTHEAST QLD….

http://www.seqwater.com.au/content/standard.asp?name=WhoWeAre

This is the mob who actually OWN the dams that were originally built with

Tax-payer funds from every Queenslander, and every Qld worker who

Would be quiet unaware of how the dealings work. I am only beginning to understand what is happening & has happened.

There is and has been ‘Witchcraft’ afoot! Slight of hand and slip of tongue, change the subject to ‘needs,’ when it suits, and ‘ruining the environment,’ as an excuse.

My source tells me, and I quote the email he has sent me,

Sorry, VaMEad, my first response was prior to checking my Blog. You can see the annual reports at www.seqwater.com.au The 2001/2002 has the price increases which were actually from $135/ML to $166/Ml. The assets subject to the transfer are in the accounts at historical cost. The detail on the calculation of the transfer cost appears to have been taken out since my complaint to ASIC. Regards Ian Mott”

That is a double whammy of what you can guess is the big chaps at the south east quarter

Of our state of Queensland. Please remember dear reader, I had attended an official meeting

Of water planners, called ‘Fitzroy Basin Catchment Management,’ where they were asking for officials to manage the area of where I live is part of one of the largest catchment areas in Australia.

What am I getting at, what is my point?? This bunch of rabble called government, and water managers have short changed all Queenslanders, and new arrivals too. They encourage more and more settlement in the South East quarter of the state, then rubbish the rest of us.

I will attempt to go back and find Ian Mott’s web page. Maybe back track my email. Could take sometime or just a few seconds. Actually, took a couple of minutes. Ian Mott is the writer of the water crisis, that I had so much to say earlier. Some years since I have driven to

Ipswich, where some of my Siblings still live, via Esk, which goes around and over the

Whivenho Dam, the great wonder that was to keep Brisbane in Water for Ever and more!

http://ianmott.blogspot.com/

I am leaving it to you, dear reader to check further, if it so interest you. It is how they do

Business in the wild, wild west of Queensland, Australia. Then there is all the money in

The world to wage war in Afghanistan and Iraq, and God know where else

Water cut to power stations

Rosemary Odgers

March 08, 2007 10:05am

THE state government will from next month significantly reduce the amount of water available to power stations to save drinking water.

Deputy Premier Anna Bligh told State Parliament that Tarong North power station's water allocation would fall by 40 percent and Swanbank by 25 percent from April 10 when Level 5 water restrictions are introduced.

The cuts will stay in place until September.

The government estimates the reductions will mean Tarong's consumption will fall from 20 megalitres a day to 12 megalitres a day and Swanbank's from 20 megalitres to 15.

Ms Bligh said the overall savings amounted to 13 megalitres a day - equivalent to the amount of water used by 65,000 people.

She said power delivery would not be affected by the cuts because the state had ample electricity.

Ms Bligh said nothing about whether the partly privately owned Tarong North would be compensated for being forced to reduce output as a result of the water restrictions.

The cuts were decided at a Water Commission meeting yesterday.
